About Newton Abbot PROBUS Club

Newton Abbot PROBUS Club provides an opportunity for retired and semi-retired men to keep active mentally as whilst enjoying social interaction with fellow members. The club was formed in 1972 and is a club of some thirty members. It welcomes enquiries from retired and semi retired professional and business men interested in visiting as guests before applying to join.

When are meetings held?

Newton Abbot PROBUS Club meets twice a month, on the first and fourth Tuesdays of each month, between September and June.

What happens at a meeting?

Members arrive around 10am to socialise over tea or coffee. The formal part of the meeting begins at 10.30am.  There is normally a presentation from a guest speaker, lasting between about 45 minutes and an hour, allowing for questions. This is followed by ten minutes or so of club business.   If pressed for time, members can leave before noon, although most retire to the bar for a drink and time for fellowship, many opting to stay socialising over an optional inexpensive lunch.

Twice a year, in January and June, a formal luncheon  is held, when members can invite their partners and guests.

How is the club run?

The members of Newton Abbot PROBUS  Club  elect their own  officers that can include: Chair, Vice-Chair, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Speaker-Finder and Social Secretary.
